Diesel generators enjoy a passionate following for many of the same reasons
customers prefer diesel truck engines. They last. A really, really
long time.
While we've read some inconclusive findings on diesel vs.
gas fueled
generators lifespans, there's no controversy about portable diesel
generators. These are the models used by heavy users and industrial
contractors. Prices tend to command a $100 - $200 premium for the same
brand / size over their gas counterparts.
Be sure to choose a model that's big enough to run what you plan on using.

"To find the right generator you need to think about what you'll be using it
for," says Wayne Becker, editor of RV Generator Shop. "Most users need
reliable & portable power to help wait out an outage. Mid-range models are
both affordable and capable of powering multiple appliances."
Tip: Most portable electric generators are intended for mid-range
home use. If you're not sure how much power you need, read our
